Question: How Can Employees Remain Happy At Work?

Dear HR,

I find myself being less and less motivated to go to work because of the same old routine everyday. I’m always working even after I clock out, causing me to stay up later than I should and rushing to get ready for work in the morning. What do you think I can do to bring myself out of this cycle?
Mr. Not-So-Happy

Dear Mr. Not-So-Happy,

Thank you for your question. Find your work-life balance in order to sustain your physical and mental well-being. A majority of jobs call for longer hours, but to tend to your own happiness, you have to set some boundaries. For example, once you’re off and out of the office, try to not respond to work emails and take the time for the rest of the day for yourself. Change your routine so that your mornings are not fast-paced, whether that’s preparing for the day the night before or setting your alarm even just 15 minutes earlier to give yourself more time in the morning.

Being stressed to get to work on time right when you wake up is automatically going to start your day off on the wrong foot, so find some ways to provide yourself with more time to get ready in the morning without rushing. Lastly, if you’re not happy at work because you’re not within your desired career path, then almost nothing you do will help unless drastic changes are made. Take the time to find what you love to do and never let your age deter you from that because being able to work with your passion is conducive to content.
